The place
Standard DOC 6-bunk hut at 1,240 m in Kahurangi National Park (Tasman, NZ), on the eastern side of the Arthur Range. Impressive views over the Wangapeka Valley and Mt Owen. Easiest access via the Chummies Track from the Wangapeka. Payment by DOC tickets in the honesty box or Backcountry Hut Pass.

A bit of history
Built in 1963, named in honour of John Reid, a local helicopter pilot who frequently flew over the backcountry and helped transport building materials.
