Jöchl-Hütte
The place
Basic refuge ("Jöchlhütte") set at 2258 m in the Pfossental (Val di Fosse), a large side valley of the Val Senales (Schnalstal, South Tyrol, Italy). Notable location in the largest side valley of the Schnalstal, famous for its unspoiled landscapes with no ski slopes — a pristine valley crossed by trails leading to the Altissima (3480 m, the most iconic peak). Basic shelter building used as an emergency refuge in bad weather, a stop on routes toward the Stettiner Hütte. Exceptional rugged setting in the southern Ötztal Alps: subalpine meadows, larches and Swiss stone pines, panoramic views of iconic peaks (Wilde Spitze, Hochwilde, Saldurspitzen). Iconic wildlife: ibex (a large population since its reintroduction in the Alps in 1956), chamois, marmot, golden eagle, bearded vulture (reintroduced in the Alps in 1986). On the edge of the Texelgruppe Nature Park (South Tyrol) and the great Alta Via 2 traverses of South Tyrol.
