The place
Traditional hunting cabin ("Jägerhütte") set at 1845 m in the Defereggental (Defereggen valley, East Tyrol, Austria). Notable position in the middle valley of the three great high valleys of East Tyrol running east to west — an isolated and unspoiled sector, one of the most authentic in Tyrol. Building of traditional hunting use, now a mountain stopover for hikers on the high-altitude loop trails. The Defereggental is renowned for its unspoiled alpine landscapes, pastoral heritage, and wild character. Mineral and forested setting typical of East Tyrol's high valleys: larches, Swiss stone pines, summer alpine pastures, panorama over the Hohe Tauern peaks and the border massifs. Emblematic wildlife: chamois, ibex (reintroduced), marmot, golden eagle, bearded vulture (reintroduced in the Hohe Tauern), rock ptarmigan.
