The place

A Metsähallitus varaustupa (reservation cabin) in the Hammastunturi wilderness area (Inari, northern Lapland), on the northern bank of the Ivalojoki River, in the yard of the former Crown Station dating from the late 1860s. The building dates from 1996, complemented by the original storage buildings and a riverside sauna. Sámi name: Avviljoga Kultala. Wood stove and fireplace for heating, gas cooker, no electricity, water from a stream 30 m away. Booked entirely for private use. Summer access via a 12 km marked trail from Pahaoja, with suspension bridges over the Ivalojoki and Sotajoki, or by canoe.
