The place

Free Metsähallitus autiotupa in the Hammastunturi wilderness area, on the bank of the Ivalojoki in the municipality of Inari (northern Lapland). Open side of a 1996 building shared with the varaustupa Avviljoga Kultala / Ivalojoen Kultala, which replaced a 1970 building destroyed by fire. The yard is a gold-rush-era museum zone featuring the historic old Crown Station where officials once supervised gold panning in the late 19th century (permit checks, gold weighing, tax collection). Original buildings protected and restored, some serving as a small museum. Summer access via a marked 12 km trail from Pahaoja, or by canoe/kayak along the Ivalojoki. Free-access cabin under the Finnish autiotupa rule.
