The place
Drake's Bothy (formerly known as "Inshriach Bothy" during the 2011-2023 artist residency) is a hut at 284 m elevation in the Cairngorms National Park (Scotland), built in the 1930s as a hunting bothy on the Inshriach estate (then owned by the Drake family). Today it is owned and managed by Scottish Natural Heritage as a simple open shelter for walkers (5-6 places). Located on the banks of the Spey in traditional Scottish woodland, 4 miles from Aviemore. Not to be confused with the modern Inshriach Bothy (a Bothy Project artist residency, designed in 2011 by Iain MacLeod and Bobby Niven, withdrawn from the residency programme in February 2023 after 200+ residencies).
