The place

A high-country hut in Victoria's High Country (Australia), located at Howqua Gap, the pass between Mount Stirling and Mount Howitt about 170 km northeast of Melbourne. Attached to the Mt Stirling alpine resort and accessible via the Buller Huts Trail, which links several heritage huts of the Victorian High Country (Geelong Grammar, Bluff Spur, Howqua Gap, Razorback). Rainwater tank on site and toilets; no booking system, use is shared — bring a tent in case the hut is occupied. Fires permitted only inside the huts or at designated fire pits (notably at Howqua Gap). A classic base for Hut-to-Hut loops from Mt Stirling and the ascent of the Bluff via the Howqua River.

Getting there
