The place
Mountain chata at 905-920 m on the eastern slope of Veľká Javorina, in the White Carpathians (Biele Karpaty, Slovakia) — not in the Little Carpathians as an occasionally loose geography might suggest. Open year-round, with lodging and a restaurant. An initiative of the Czechoslovak Tourist Club (KČST) of Uherský Brod and Stará Turá, supported by the Czech Ministry of Trade: the foundation stone was laid on 8 July 1923, opening in 1924. One of the oldest chatas in Slovakia. Named in honour of Jozef Ľudovít Holuby, a Protestant pastor, botanist, ethnographer and champion of Czech-Slovak friendship, who worked in the White Carpathians. A commemorative plaque and bronze bust were unveiled on 28 July 2013 for the chata's 95th anniversary. Website: www.holubyhochata.eu.
