The place
A DNT cabin set at 1553 m on a rocky spur rising out of the Folgefonna glacier (Vestland, Norway) — the phrase "sleeping on the glacier" truly applies here. One of the four DNT huts in the Folgefonna National Park, alongside Fonnabu, Breidablikk and Sauarbrehytta. Fourteen beds plus mattresses in a mezzanine. On-site provisions shop, equipped kitchen, gas, wood and candles supplied; DNT member rate applies. Hiking season July-October, ski season March-May (advance booking recommended). Classic access from Tokheim near Odda: 7.5 km of varied, steep and demanding climbing. In July-August, the Folgefonni Glacier Guide Association organises glacier crossings (must be booked in advance, an overnight at the cabin the night before is advisable).
