Holly Hut
The place
Serviced DOC hut with thirty-two beds at 1,000 m in the North Egmont area of Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki National Park (Taranaki, North Island, New Zealand). Gateway to the Ahukawakawa alpine swamp and the Te Rere-o-Tahurangi falls. Kiwi calls audible at night. Solar lighting, filtered rainwater, fireplace with wood supplied, watertight pit toilets nearby.
Getting there
3 to 4 hours' walk from the North Taranaki Visitor Centre. Online booking mandatory (no places reserved for walk-ups). Rates: off-peak (May-September) adult NZ$25/night, high-season weekends (Dec-Feb) NZ$34 adult (reduced rates for children aged 5-17, free for infants).
