The place

Historic hamlet at the top of the Val Sinestra (Engadine, Grisons), at 1,711 m elevation, reached after about 5 km of walking through shaded forest — the quietest historic Swiss hotel in Graubünden. Preserved ensemble of an inn, a stable, a chalet and a chapel. **First mentioned in 1482** as a hereditary fief of the village of Sent. Located on a prehistoric transalpine route from the Lower Engadine to Austrian Paznaun via the Fimber Pass. Swiss customs post until 1942. Capacity of around 11-13 people across 4 historic double rooms, 2 rustic 4-bed rooms, 1 single room and 2 suites at the chalet (by personal request). Discovered a century ago by the Dutch conductor Willem Mengelberg, who designed the chalet and bought the farm in 1920. Owned since 2010 by Dr Peter Robert Berry IV. Hosts since May 2024: Sarah Scarperi & Reinhard Psenner and their son Daniel, originally from South Tyrol.
