Hochsteinhütte
The place
The Hochsteinhütte is a staffed cabin of the Austrian Alpine Club, Lienz section, set at 2023 m above Lienz in the Villgraten Alps, East Tyrol. It welcomes hikers, ski tourers, cyclists, and tourists seeking an exceptional viewpoint over Lienz and the Lienz Dolomites. The summer season runs from early May to late October, complemented by a winter season from December to March. Wolfgang Ladstätter manages it. The fastest access is via the Bannberg toll road, up to five minutes' walk from the refuge.
Getting there
Access via the Bannbergstraße toll road (5 min walk), or by chairlift from Lienz to the Sternalm then 1h-1h30 on foot. Russenweg trail from Schloss Bruck in 3h30-4h.
The setting
Villgraten Alps, East Tyrol. Views over Lienz and the Lienz Dolomites. Summit of the Böses Weibele (2521 m) reachable in 1h30.
