Hobbitland
The place
Khobbitlend ("Hobbitland") in Kaluga oblast, in the Balabanovo/Malojaroslavets area (south-west of Moscow, on the central Russian plateau, Russia), at 199 m elevation, in the Protva river plain. Continuous cluster Russia/Moscow Belt (batches 260-337). A Tolkien-themed "Hobbitland" glamping site (a reference to The Lord of the Rings, popularized since Jackson's 2001-2003 films, part of an "eco-village" tourism trend built into terraced hillsides, a curious Russian-Orthodox-adjacent trend of the 2010s), an area of mixed oak-birch-pine forest, and near Kaluga Oskol, evocative of Tolstoy's 1900 Yasnaya Polyana (60 km to the south) and the Battle of Malojaroslavets in 1812 (where Napoleon turned back from Moscow on 24 October 1812, marking the start of the Russian retreat).
