The place

Hirvastupa is a "vuokratupa" (rental cabin) of Metsähallitus, in the Hossa area of northeastern Finland (Suomussalmi, Kainuu). A rental house that can be used in its entirety by a group for one or more nights. Access by car right up to the yard: follow the Jatkonsalmentie past the nature centre for ~3 km, turn right, ~4 km, then left to the lakeshore where the road forks — Hirvastupa is on the left side. Maintained by Metsähallitus Luontopalvelut: visits on Mondays of odd weeks between 2pm and 6pm (checking toilets, emptying bins, gas, wood). Booking and information via eraluvat.fi (Metsähallitus Luontopalvelut). Typical boreal lakeside setting of Finnish forests.
