The place

Hiadeľské sedlo is a mountain pass at 1099 m elevation separating the Nízke Tatry (Low Tatras) from the Starohorské vrchy, above the village of Hiadeľ, northeast of Banská Bystrica (Slovakia). At the western end of the main Nízke Tatry ridge, it is one of the few places in the national park where overnight stays are legally permitted, in a shelter (útulňa) that accommodates about a dozen hikers.
