Herricks Hut

The place

Basic 5-bunk DOC hut located at 460 m in Ruahine Forest Park (Hawke's Bay). Built in 1960 by the New Zealand Forest Service, now maintained by volunteers. Amenities: water tank. Free, open access. Access via Thorn Flat Station requires prior permission from the landowner. The hut is largely isolated from the rest of the Ruahine track and hut network, with a remote bivouac profile.
