Heiterwandhütte: A Self-Sufficient Cabin with Authentic Charm The Heiterwandhütte is a mountain cabin belonging to the Oberer Neckar section of the German Alpine Club, located in the Lechtal Alps, Tyrol, Austria. Accessible year-round with an Alpine Club key. Location The Heiterwandhütte is at an altitude of 2020 meters, on the Grubeggjoch, south of the eastern peak of the Heiterwand. History Built in 1911/12 and opened in 1912 by the Anhalt section of the German Alpine Club, based in Dessau. After the Second World War, the Oberer Neckar section of Rottweil took over management of the cabin, since the German Alpine Club and its sections were not permitted in East Germany. After the old cabin was destroyed by an avalanche in 1971, a new building was constructed in 1972. Access From Tarrenz: 4.5 hours. From Nassereith: 3 hours.
