Healey Creek Hut
The place
Healey Creek Hut is a basic 4-bunk shelter at 1183 m altitude in the Hokitika area, on the West Coast of the South Island (New Zealand). Located at the head of Healey Creek, a tributary of the Mikonui River, on a tussock terrace well above the creek, halfway up the summit ridge known as Healey Spur. On a route no longer maintained by the DOC, with some sporadic work by Permolat. First come, first served (no booking). Facilities: mattresses, dry toilet, water from the creek. Lined hut but no stove. Strategic position at the start of the Galena Ridge, on one of the routes to Ivory Lake.
