Hawdon Hut

The place

Serviced hut with twenty bunks managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in Arthur's Pass National Park, Canterbury (South Island, New Zealand), at 789 meters elevation. Wood burner for heating; visitors bring their own stove and utensils. Rates until 30 June 2026: 25 NZD/night adult, 12.50 NZD child (5-17 years), free under 5. Booking required online (open until 30 June 2027), same-day possible until 8 pm; walk-ins turned away if full. Route crossed by numerous river fords: do not attempt in heavy rain or flood; carry emergency supplies in case of being stranded. Radio link to the Arthur's Pass visitor centre, monitored 8:30 am - 4:30 pm seven days a week except 25 December.
