Hauroko Burn Hut
The place
Hauroko Burn Hut is a DOC hut at 187 m elevation at the start of the Dusky Track, in Fiordland National Park (Southland, New Zealand). Capacity 12 bunks: sleeping platforms, heating, mattresses, dry toilet, tap water (untreated, boil before use). Reached by ferry crossing Lake Hauroko to the head of the lake. The first 40 minutes from the hut are on flat terrain, with fine views over the river. The Dusky Track (84 km, 8-10 days) linking Lake Hauroko to Lake Manapouri is one of the most demanding in Fiordland: for experienced, well-equipped, fit groups only.
