The place

DOC serviced hut with 10 bunks in Remutaka Forest Park (Wellington), at 160 m. Locked cabin requiring an access code issued at booking. Gas hob, pots, dishes and utensils provided, wood heating, cold water, composting toilets. Bring lighting, fire starters and toilet paper. 3-hour access via the Ōrongorongo and Big Bend tracks from Turere Bridge. Rate NZ$127/night off-season through June 2026. Booking required online or at a visitor center (NZ$10 service fee). Backcountry Hut Pass not valid. Same-day booking until 8pm. Avoid the river when in flood, check the Ōrongorongo flow level. Fire permit required depending on the fire danger level.
