The place

Khatynka ("Little house") in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, Verkhovyna/Yablunytsia area (Hutsul region, Ukrainian Carpathians, Ukraine), at 1187 m elevation, on the Bilonyi Cheremosh (White Cheremosh) slope. Part of a continuous Ukraine Carpathians Hutsul cluster (batches 220-342). Traditional Hutsul khatynka (a small house, trapeze-shaped Hutsul koliba built of wood with thatched or shingle "gont" roofs following Slavic construction patterns, of high ethnographic value in Verkhovyna, the Hutsul capital), in an area of beech-fir forest and Hutsul minority heritage (a people of the eastern Carpathians, 100,000 speakers of the Hutsul-Ukrainian dialect, the whirling kolomyika dance, and traditional dress including the richly embroidered "krysania" feathered hat and red silver jewellery).
