Härkävaara autiotupa

The place

Free Metsähallitus autiotupa on the bank of the Peskihaara, in Urho Kekkonen National Park, municipality of Savukoski in eastern Lapland. The building was originally a reindeer herder's cabin, now dedicated to hikers: 10 sleeping places, a wood stove, a gas cooker, and an adjoining sauna for shared use after the day's hike. As with any autiotupa, access is free and unbooked, subject to the short-stay etiquette that leaves room for the next hikers.
