Hainfelder Kirschbaum
The place
Forest shelter of the Pfälzerwald-Verein Hainfeld section, located on the old timber transport route linking Taubensuhl and Heldenstein in the northern Pfälzerwald (Palatinate). The original cabin, renovated and enlarged in 1993-94, takes its name from a wild cherry tree that marked the crossroads: back when timber haulers stopped here to rest their horses, the tree served as a landmark. The dead cherry tree has been replaced by a new sapling now thriving on the site. The shelter offers benches under a lean-to and a small garden with a table, a popular stop for a picnic on the trails. A nearby Ritterstein marker bears the simple inscription "Hainfelder Kirschbaum," typical of the historic waymarking stones of the Pfälzerwald.

A bit of history
Désigne à l'origine un cerisier remarquable (Ritterstein 77, datation 1910-1916) marquant une halte pour les charretiers forestiers, communes de Hainfeld/Landau in der Pfalz, Rhénanie-Palatinat. Une cabane « Kirschbaum-Hütte » du Pfälzerwald-Verein s'y trouve aujourd'hui, dans la réserve de biosphère Pfälzerwald-Nordvogesen.
