The place

Municipal fire-shelter kota on the shore of Haapajärven tekoallas, a reservoir lake built in 1966, 5 km southeast of central Raahe to secure fresh water supply for the Rautaruukki steelworks. The reservoir, about 4 km long and 2 km wide, is fed by the Pattijoki river during floods and rains, then drains via the Haapajoki into the Kuljunlahti bay. The site combines the kota with a bird-watching tower, an outdoor fireplace and the Saloisten metsästäjät hunting lodge. Sparsely populated shores aside from a few summer residences. Picnic area managed by the City of Raahe's sports and leisure services.
