Grünhornhütte
The place
Historic hut at 2448 m on the eastern ridge of the Tödi, above Linthal in the Glarus Alps (canton of Glarus), on the edge of the Bifertenfirn. Owned by the SAC Tödi section. Built in 1863, the year the Swiss Alpine Club was founded — this is the very first SAC hut. On the occasion of the Tödi section's 150th anniversary, it was turned into a historic alpine monument: since 2013 it can be visited but not slept in, as a living witness to the beginnings of Swiss mountaineering. Approach from Linthal via Tierfehd, Vorder Sand, Hinter Sand and the Fridolinshütte — about 6h30 of walking. Not to be confused with the other SAC huts on the Tödi (Fridolinshütte, Planurahütte, Muttseehütte).
