The place
The Gründhütte is a small self-catering hut belonging to the Oberland section of the German Alpine Club. It sits at 1195 m altitude in a sunny clearing at the foot of the Hirschberg, near Kreuth in the Bavarian Prealps, above Lake Tegernsee. It offers ten mattress sleeping places in the dormitory and operates year-round on a self-service basis. Access is reserved for members of the Munich and Oberland sections of the DAV, by reservation. The setting — a stream and a large surrounding meadow — is well suited to families in summer.
