Grotte-bergerie de Cimone
The place
This former shepherd's shelter (once the "Montagnola" or "Muntagnola" sheepfold, with a few adjoining livestock pens) was fitted out with a stone wall closing off a large "taffonu"; the floor is flagged and fairly level. No perennial water source remains (there used to be a spring on the other side, 100 meters to the north). A sensitive natural area: numerous incense junipers - fire is strongly discouraged. Foot access only, most conveniently from the well-marked "Île-Rousse - Corte" hiking trail: near the 1175 m mark, leave the trail to climb north-northwest following a few cairns through low scrubland dotted with junipers. The cave-shelter sits on the southern edge of a small plateau, within a wooded rocky chaos. Former ruined cave-shelter, Corscia communal forest, commune of Corscia
