The place
Alpine refuge at 2254 m in the upper Ridanna valley (Ridnauntal), on the South Tyrolean side of the Stubai Alps, near the Austrian border. Known in Italian as Rifugio Vedretta Piana. A small refuge favored by experienced mountaineers as a stage toward many of the area's 3000m peaks: Agglspitze, Feuerstein, Schneespitze, Wilder Freiger, Wilder Pfaff, Sonklarspitze, Botzer. Since 2015, jointly managed involving AVS, CAI and public authorities. Typical opening season: mid-June to mid-October.
