The place
Forest barbecue shelter belonging to the town of Lahnstein, overlooking the Middle Rhine valley on the heights between Oberlahnstein and Boppard. A small Schutzhütte-type shelter set up as a picnic area, ideal for a break or as a refuge in bad weather on the Mittelrhein trails. 0.3 km from the Spiessborn, a path leads within a few minutes to the summit of the Oberhohl (274 m). The site, popular with local hikers and cyclists, offers no overnight accommodation but serves as a rest stop on the Rheinsteig and Rheinburgenweg routes.
