The place
Grænalón shelter ("Green Lake" in Icelandic), at the foot of the Skeiðarárjökull glacier in Vatnajökull National Park, southern Iceland. A former proglacial lake, now drained — a spectacular transformation linked to glacial retreat. Rustic sheet-metal expedition shelter, used by scientists and hikers crossing the park. Arctic glacial zone.
