The place

Great Walk hut with 8 bunks at 633 m on the Heaphy Track, Kahurangi National Park (Golden Bay, NZ). One of the seven huts on the Heaphy. Traditional architecture, historic charm nestled against beech forest. Separate bunks with mattresses (bring a sleeping bag). Heating, cold running water, long-drop toilets. No gas cooking or lighting: bring a stove and lamp. High season rates (Oct-Apr): $44 adults, $22 children (NZ); $66/$33 international. Off season: $30-38 NZ and international. Ages 5-17 half price, under 4s free. Backcountry Hut Passes and standard tickets not accepted. Online DOC booking required.
