Городок ("Small town") in the Republic of Buryatia, Zaigraevo/Onokhoy area (western Trans-Baikal, eastern Siberia, Russia), at 814 m elevation, on the southern Khamar-Daban slope above Lake Baikal. Forest cabin or urban weather station "Small town" (hamlet nickname), located in the southern taiga zone of the Khamar-Daban range (2000-2500 m mountains forming the ecological boundary between steppe and taiga) and by Lake Baikal (the world's deepest lake at 1642 m, the world's oldest lake at 25 million years, holding 20% of the world's liquid fresh water, with endemism of 1500 species including the Baikal seal Pusa sibirica, the only freshwater seal species in the world), and heritage of the Buryats (Mongolic people, 460,000 speakers of the Buryat Mongolic language, Tibetan Gelugpa Buddhism introduced in the 17th c., 30 datsan monasteries in Buryatia).
