Gold Creek Hut

The place

Basic DOC hut with 4 bunks in Ruahine Forest Park (Manawatū-Whanganui / Hawke's Bay), at 710 m elevation. **Built in 1958, a modified NZFS S-81 design.** Sprung bunks, standard mattresses, a corker cooker for heating, long-drop toilet, creek water. Free (volunteer-maintained). Access: ~75 km from Napier via Wakarara Road (26.5 km from SH50). From the car park, a marked track runs 500 m across pasture to the river, then a steep climb and descent down to Gold Creek — a river crossing is required (expect wet feet).
