Gjendebu
The place
Gjendebu is the oldest DNT lodge still in operation, dating from 1871 (over 150 years old), at 990 m of altitude on the western shore of Lake Gjende in Jotunheimen National Park (Norway). The original cabin has been extended and renovated several times; modern facilities today. Single, double and family rooms, dormitories, lavvo, summer barn or camping. Local cuisine based on regional produce and Norwegian culinary traditions. No road access: reached on foot, by boat (in summer), or on skis in winter (about 20 km from Gjendesheim DNT at the other end of Gjende). An area rich in fishing lakes, glaciers and peaks over 2000 m. A classic stop between DNT cabins, with swimming and relaxation possible right at the foot of the cabin.
