The place
High-altitude bivouac at 2845 m below the Cima d'Asta, commune of Pieve Tesino (Trento, Italy), managed by the Padua section of Giovane Montagna. Built in the granite blocks of a former military observation post erected by the Alpini during the First World War, inaugurated on 27 July 1969 and named in tribute to Giuseppe Cavinato, a founding member of the Padua section. Capacity of 2 people. Interior equipment: benches and table. No water nearby. Three possible access routes. The nearest staffed refuge is the Rifugio O. Brentari (2473 m, 3 h from Malga Sorgazza).
Getting there
Trois itinéraires principaux mènent au bivacco (2845 m) : A) depuis Pieve Tesino (843 m) via Malga Sorgazza puis le Rifugio O. Brentari (2473 m), l'itinéraire le plus fréquenté ; B) accès direct depuis le Lago di Cima d'Asta par un couloir sud, environ 1 heure depuis ce point, section plus raide et rocheuse ; C) depuis le Rifugio Refavàie via le Passo del Brocòn.
The setting
Le bivacco est situé sur la crête sommitale de Cima d'Asta (2845 m), aménagé dans les ruines d'un ancien observatoire militaire construit pendant la Première Guerre mondiale par les Alpini du Battaglione Valbrenta. Le site offre un panorama étendu sur les massifs environnants des Dolomites.
