The place
Gîte d'étape at about 1900 m in the small, isolated Berber village of Taghia, in the heart of the central High Atlas (Zaouïat Ahansal, Azilal province, Morocco) — one of the world's great big-wall climbing destinations. The village is accessible only on foot from Zaouïat Ahansal, via a day's walk through spectacular gorges. Several gîtes operate there in traditional Berber houses (Said Zouhairi, Aziz, Mohamed, Taoujdate, Hamed) — generally half-board at around €15 per person, home cooking, exceptional setting beneath the limestone walls. Serves as a base camp for the 'Cirque de Taghia': big walls up to 800 m, all styles, as well as hikes on the plateaus and in the canyons of the Ahansals.
