The place
Guarded refuge at 2,534 m in the Val Porcellizzo (Val Masino, province of Sondrio), managed by Giacomo Fiorelli. Seventy-eight beds, eighty seats at table, twelve places in the winter room. Full facilities: hot water, showers, a climbing hall, vegetarian and allergy-friendly menus, a wine selection. Half board from 60 to 75 euros, reduced rates for families and groups. Waypoint on the Sentiero Roma linking the Omio, Brasca and Allievi refuges. Base for climbing the Pizzo Badile and the Pizzo Cengalo.
Getting there
Access from the Bagni del Masino in about 3h30, 1,362 m of elevation gain, a route for experienced hikers. Connections on the Sentiero Roma toward Omio, Brasca and Allievi.
The setting
Masino massif (Rhaetian Alps), base for climbing the Pizzo Badile (3,308 m) and the Pizzo Cengalo (3,369 m).
