The place

Island lighthouse off Skudeneshavn, in the municipality of Karmøy (Rogaland, Norway), lit in 1924 to replace the Skudenes lighthouse in service since 1799. One of the youngest Norwegian lighthouses, automated and decommissioned in 1994, now protected as a cultural monument. Keeper's quarters managed by the Haugesund Turistforening: eight rooms totalling 24 beds (four four-bed rooms and four two-bed rooms), capacity raised to 32 with double occupancy of the 1.5-width beds. Seasonal opening from May to September, cistern water for general use only, drinking water and provisions must be brought. Boat transport from Skudeneshavn by reservation with Haugesund Turistforening (rate 100 NOK/adult, 50 NOK/child, minimum 350 NOK per crossing).
