The place
Historic DNT self-service cabin at 843 m in Setesdal Vesthei (Bygland, Agder, Norway), managed by DNT Sør. The oldest tourist cabin in Setesdal Vesthei. Open year-round. 46 bunks spread across four buildings: hovedhytta, the main building (24 beds), Normansbu, an emergency shelter (14), Sovehuset (6), førerbua, the warden's cabin (2); plus a boathouse. Gas stoves, solar lighting, drying room, toilets, lake water, USB-A/USB-C phone charging. Shortest access from Ljosland/Langevatndammen, 5-6 hours. Routes also from Øyuvsbu (north), Langeid (east), Josephsbu (west), Bortelid (southeast). Winter access by ski only, some routes not plowed. Activities: fishing, canoeing, hikes to Gaukheilega and Livorlega. Dog rooms available on request.
