Historic old DNT hut at Høgevarde — the new Høgevarde Nye was designed by Stein Halvorsen Arkitekter. Self-service category with access via DNT key. Capacity and detailed facilities to be confirmed on the official UT.no listing.
Getting there
Unstaffed DNT hut, DNT Drammen og Omegn (opened 1893). Café (drinks + simple hot food) at the Gamle. Access: bus to Eggedal then taxi to Tempelseter, or private car to Tempelseter. Then a 2-hour walk (~6 km) on marked trails up to Høgevarde. Buskerud cluster with Harehopp (batch 45, 60.48/9.61).
The setting
Norefjell and Eggedalsfjella (municipality of Krødsherad, Buskerud), 60.29°N 9.46°E, 1390 m. On Høgevardetoppen (1459 m), a viewpoint indicator of the visible peaks. Widest panoramic view in southern Norway after Gaustatoppen (40,000 km² in clear weather).
A bit of history
The oldest section of the Gamle Høgevarde dates from 1893 and is still in use. The traditional hut was joined by a new hut (Høgevarde nye) in 2017.
