Fusshornbiwak
The place
High-altitude bivouac at 2788 m beneath the Dreistgletscher, east of the Fusshörner, on the edge of the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO perimeter (Valais, Switzerland). Built in 1996 by the Blatten-Belalp mountain guides' association. Capacity for 10 people, basic bivouac facilities for climbers. A base camp appreciated for its views over the upper and middle Aletsch glaciers — rarely visited. Standard approach route from Belalp: 3h30 uphill, ~950 m elevation gain. Also serves as a starting point for routes in the Geisshorn area and high-mountain tours via the Dreistgletscher. Summer season and winter ski touring.
