Fründenhütte
The place
Staffed Swiss Alpine Club hut at 2,562 m in the Bernese Alps, managed by the SAC Altels section. Fifty-eight beds spread over three dormitories, plus fourteen places in the winter room. Base for routes on the Fründenhorn, the Doldenhorn and the Oeschihorn towards the Blüemlisalp. The Fründen glacier lies to the south and the Oeschinen lake a thousand metres below to the north. Since the closure of the old trail, access from Oeschinensee follows a T4-graded alpine route.
Getting there
Access from the Oeschinen lake via a T4 alpine route in about 4 h 30, 1,200 m of elevation gain. Trail exposed in its upper section.
The setting
Glacial cirque of the Fründengletscher to the south, overlooking the Oeschinen lake to the north, Blüemlisalp massif.
