The place

Basic four-bunk hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in the Kokatahi and Whitcombe rivers area, Hokitika sector on the West Coast (South Island, New Zealand), at about 866 meters elevation. Free access, no booking. Isolated high-valley hut, unmarked trail: independent navigation required with map, compass and GPS; demanding backcountry conditions.
