Bivacco Franco Nebbia

The place

Sleeping spots: 6 Spots on mattress: 5 Micro bivouac located at the southern foot of the Col Garin and the Lac Garin. Equipment: - 5 bunks with mattress, pillow and blanket, a 6th spot is available without a mattress, bring your own in case overbooking gets out of hand. 4 people remains reasonable; more becomes hard to manage as the bivouac is very cramped. Notes: - The lower bunks leave little room, tall and sturdy mountaineers will feel cramped, provided they even manage to squeeze into said bunk!!! - Very little space inside, see photo... barely room for 6 packs... Water: - If coming up via the Arpisson valley, fill up at the spring located by the trail just before the Arpisson sheepfold (before crossing the torrent, take the water from a spring, not from the torrent...). - If coming up via Arbolle, at the foot of the Col Garin, you pass by the water collector for the Arbolle refuge, follow the pipe that climbs to the spring coming out of a scree slope a bit further North, it's easy! From Gimillan, above Cogne: Cross the whole village to find trail No. 3 to its North heading toward the Col and Lac Garin (2815m) via the Arpisson valley (the lake lies at the foot of the Punta Garin, 3461m), the bivouac is not signposted at Gimillan. The pass is given at 3h15min, minus 15min to reach the bivouac at the foot of the final steep stretch. From the Vallon d'Arbolle, starting from Pila: Reach the Refuge d'Arbolle via trail No. 14, continue this trail toward the Col d'Arbolle, at the place called Modzon, turn right to follow trail No. 18 to the Col Garin, which you cross to reach the bivouac on the flat ground at the bottom on the other side of the pass. Note that the Col Garin bivouac isn't visible from a distance; you need to descend a little to spot it (it's very small...).
