Fonnabu
The place
Self-service DNT (Den Norske Turistforening) hytte at 1260 m, on the edge of the Folgefonna glacier (Vestland, Norway) — the DB listing shows 1450 m, to be double-checked. Two main buildings: the main cabin (1996) with 22 beds spread across 3 rooms on the ground floor plus a room and a loft dormitory upstairs; the "safety" cabin (1974), a traditional DNT building with 18 beds in 3 rooms downstairs and 2 lofts. Neighboring the Breidablikkbrea and Bondhusbrea (western arms of the Folgefonna, visible and reachable on foot in under half an hour from the cabin). Classic access via Bondhusdalen from Sunndal on the Maurangerfjorden; ferries Rosendal-Leirvik then the Åkrafjordvegen road, or Jondal-Tørvik. Managed by Bergen og Hordaland Turlag with oversight from Kvinnherad Turlag. DNT and local guides regularly organize guided glacier walks for all levels. Open year-round.
