Flaxy Hut in the Waikaia Valley, Riversdale/Waikaia area (Southland/Otago, South Island, New Zealand), at 608 m elevation, in the foothills of the Umbrella Mountains. Continuous Otago cluster (batches 181-310). Historic musterers'/goldminers' hut (name "Flaxy", after flax, Phormium tenax harakeke, a Māori plant used for weaving), in a zone of Chionochloa tussock and Discaria toumatou matagouri. Heritage of the Central Otago goldrushes of the 1860s.
