Fern Burn Hut

The place

A standard 12-bunk DOC hut in the Wānaka area (Otago), at 760 m. The hut sits on the Motatapu Station pastoral lease, with public access guaranteed by easement. 3-4 hours' walk from the Fern Burn carpark over 7 km. No bookings; pay with hut tickets (blue for adults, yellow for youth) or a Backcountry Hut Pass (NZ$10/5 until 30 June 2026).
