The place

Wild and Unusual Valfroide Valley The Valfroide valley, in the municipality of La Grave, is a wild and unusual spot giving access to numerous summits such as the Lombard glacier and the west ridge of the Aiguille du Goléon. It also provides access to other objectives such as the Aiguilles de la Saussaz, the Arves, the Pointe d'Argentière and the Trois Evêchés. Access from Valfroide From Valfroide, the last hamlet above Les Hières (note: the road between Les Hières and Valfroide is rough), a trail climbs northeast, following the right bank of the Maurian. The trail then has steep switchbacks before easing off with a view of the Lombard lake (in the Goléon valley). Allow around 2h30 to 3h of walking, depending on the gear you're carrying. Bivouac Spots Good bivouac spots can be found all around the Valfroide valley. Closure of the Refuge Warning!!! The refuge associated with this valley has been permanently closed by its owners and offers no accommodation whatsoever. It's therefore recommended to plan an alternative place to stay if needed.
