The place
High-altitude hut at 2265 m (DB shows 2693 m, value to be re-checked) in the Mattertal above Randa, in the Mischabel massif (Valais, Switzerland). Built in 1999 by the Burgergemeinde of Randa. Capacity 42 beds, large dining room and vast panoramic terrace. Run by Marcel Brantschen and his family. Located on the Europaweg between Grächen and Zermatt, considered one of the finest 2-day treks in the Alps — the route was created in 1997 by the communes of St. Niklaus, Grächen, Randa, Täsch and Zermatt. Immediately nearby: the Charles Kuonen suspension bridge, the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the Alps (494 m long, 85 m above the void at its highest point), spanning the Grabengufer.
